Auction house Christie's is confident global demand for Chinese and Asian art will remain firm at its autumn Hong Kong sales despite the global financial crisis seemingly cooling sales at rivals Sotheby's this week.  

Oct. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Ferraris and Lamborghinis lined up on Oct. 3 in the car park of a luxury condominium in Singapore. Their owners weren't there to buy property, they came for a private view of Asian art that Larasati Auctioneers will offer.  

As Sotheby's wraps up a Hong Kong auction, contemporary Chinese artists appear to be among the Asian art world's first casualties of the global financial crisis

The global financial crisis doused the Chinese art market boom on Wednesday, with Sotheby's saying it sold HK$1.1 billion ($141.6 million) worth of Asian art in its biannual sales in Hong Kong, around half the expected total.  

Fine art may have lost its status as a haven in times of financial stress as a high-profile auction in Hong Kong closed yesterday with mixed results. Total receipts at Sotheby's five-day sale of Asian art, jewellery and watches came to $140.7m (€103m, £81m).  

Oct. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Indonesian artist I Nyoman Masriadi broke his two-day-old auction record for contemporary Southeast Asian art with a painting of bloodied boxers that sold for HK$7.8 million ($1 million) at Sotheby's in Hong Kong.  

Move over Chinese contemporary, the head of one of Asia's leading private art auction houses sees Southeast Asian and Korean works as the next big thing on the Asian scene -- which he predicted would hold up against the troubles roiling the world's financial markets.  

Oct. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Indonesian artist I Nyoman Masriadi 's painting of boxers in a bout sold for HK$6.5 million ($836,352) in Hong Kong, not including fees, a record for contemporary Southeast Asian art.  

Hong Kong actress-singer Karen Mok launched her own brand of perfume on Thursday in Hong Kong. Karen said she had been sleepless for several nights as it is the first time that an Asian artist has released their own brand of perfume.

Oct. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Sotheby's first evening auction of Asian paintings in Hong Kong ended last night with about 40 percent of the lots unsold as buyers dithered amid the global economic slowdown and bank bailouts.
