With regard to the acting career of Lugosi, he first appeared in cinemas in the year 1917 with the movie “Az Ezredes” that is The Colonel in English. He used the stage name Arisztid Olt while performing in Hungarian silent Films. He appeared in about 12 films before leaving Germany in the year 1917 to 1918. After the Hungarian Soviet Republic of Bela Kun had collapsed in 1919, Trade Unionists as well as leftlists became defenseless. Because of his participation in establishing a union of actors, he was forbidden to act. He was exiled in Germany but he started to appear in simple films such as the film adaptation of the novel written by Karl May entitled “On the Blink of paradise”.

In 1920, Lugosi wanted to emigrate and live in the United States so he left Germany. Before 1920 ends, he reached New Orleans and the following year he went to New York and legally inspected for immigration at Ellis Island. He announced his desire to become a citizen of the United States in 1928 and after three years, he became a naturalized citizen of America.

On august 16, 1956, Lugosi passed away due to heart attack while lying on a sofa in his house in Los Angeles. He was buried at the holy Cross Cemetery wearing one of his Dracula costumes as requested by his son and fourth wife. Lugosi did not verbalize his desire to be buried wearing his Dracula costumes but his son confirmed that he believed that his father might probably want it as well.
