Bernard Madoff (born 1938) is an American businessman. He is the former chairman of the Nasdaq Stock Market and he is the founder of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC. He was arrested Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, and charged with securities fraud for his operation of Madoff Investment Securities.
Accountant David G. Friehling pleaded guilty Tuesday to federal charges that he rubber-stamped Bernard Madoff's financial books, enabling Madoff to rip off thousands of people in a $65 billion Ponzi scheme. Friehling, 49, who was Madoff's chief auditor for 17 years, faces 114 years in federal prison at his scheduled sentencing Feb. 26.
