Memba’ dis Bernice? Feel kinda’ stupid about it now, huh? Sorry, we got the pictures, girl. We’ll never let you live this down.
Bernice King with Eddie Long at a march against gay marriage at the Martin Luther King National Historic Site (Dec. 11, 2004)
All we can do is shake our heads and laugh. Speaking publicly for the first time since it was announced that she was leaving New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Bernice King, the sanctified spawn (my pappy didn’t take a bullet for no sissies) of black civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, swears up and down her timing has nothing to do with Eddie Long’s recent legal troubles and hush money payout (rumored $18 mil.) to four young impressionable black men.
Long clearly the misunderstood innocent in all of it, just for company’s sake liked to take the boys (one at a time) along with “daddy” on long distance trips sharing a hotel room together on these excursions. But of course nothin’ happened.
Now let’s get back to Bernice King and this ridiculous notion that she would just up ‘n’ leave Long’s church after it was painfully clear to any bible thumper and a fool that Eddie was guilty—of somethin’.
According to EUR Web, King said the ‘Holy Spirit’ spoke to her about her next assignment about seven years ago during one of Bishop Long’s sermons. But in that time, she has also had to deal with the back-to-back loss of her mother and sister, the court drama with her brother Dexter over the family estate, and her decision in January not to accept the presidency of SCLC. Rev. King said in the past two years, she was finally able to meditate and pray over the calling that came to her that day.
“I started really praying and meditating over it,” King said during an interview on Praise 102.5 FM.
Oh, we bet you did, Miss King. She continues:
“I told him that I have to leave because of my assignment that God has for my life. I know that I have a pastoral calling in my life. When you’re in leadership at a church, there’s a way that you leave. You don’t just leave,” said King. “I have always followed what I believe to be the voice of God in my life.”
Well how convenient for King that suddenly the Lawd spoke and said she shouldn’t wait another nano-minute after being with the church for over 8 years. Bless her heart. The dedicated thing is just eager to get on with preachin’ the gospel in her own set up. Although she didn’t mention much on where she’s going. Momma’s just gettin’ the hell outta there and worryin’ about the particulars later. Can’t say that we blame her.
“I’m going to launch a ministry,” was all King said in the interview. “I’ll be spending time over the next several months preparing and building a foundation for that.”
Oh okay. We’re looking forward to it, dear. The rest of you can listen to the entire interview on the following audio clip:
