Black history month in the U.K

Yep it's that time of the year, October in which we in the uk celebrate black history.

Black history is not all about the olden days and slavery. It's about where we have advanced from since then, be it positive or negative. For example Barack Obama is the first black president I know of in America during my life time. That's history. I am seeing more black artists of music, poetry, hairdressing and acting publicised on my tv, radio and magazines than ever before again this is advancement of us as black people. We are now doing things that are parents and their parents and so forth never dreamed we would be able to do. Or in fact dreamed we could do but never lived to see it through.
Even simple foods like rice and pea's, pig feet, and dumpling filled soups and curried mutton/ chicken are all a part of our various cultures and history. No matter which part of the continent you or your family are/was originally from. So let us stand together in unity and remember or black history. You may feel that you are nothing great or have made, any huge attributes to the cause but some where some how you have contributed. Even if it's just sowing a few historical seeds into your children via Anansi the spider man stories.
It all counts trust me.

Many of or children will be covering some type of topic or essay to do with black history and it's so easy to pick the commonly picked favourites.
Like Bob Marley, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King.
But we do have many others what about Maya Angelou, Mohammed Ali, Toni Morrision and Alice walker who have both written many a good book. Jesse Owens, Nelson Mandela and rosa parks just to state a few.
Many of you have the Internet at your fingertips use it and gain your knowledge and pass it on.

As Bob Marley stated if you know your history, then you will know where you are coming from.

Peace and blessings Natty.
