US Airways said Tuesday it had delayed the delivery of 54 Airbus aircraft as part of spending cuts over the next three years aimed at returning the struggling airline to profitability. US Airways said the delivery of the planes, previously scheduled for between 2010 and 2012, would occur in "2013 and beyond." The deferral will reduce the company's aircraft capital expenditures over the next three years by approximately 2.5 billion dollars, and pare obligations to Airbus and others by 132 million dollars in the near and medium term, the Tempe, Arizona-based airline said in a statement. US Airways said the aircraft deferrals would not ... Read Full Story

US aerospace giant Boeing broke ground Friday for the second assembly plant for its new 787 Dreamliner aircraft scheduled for its first test flight by the end of the year. The facility at North Charleston, South Carolina also will have the capability to support the testing and delivery of airplanes, officials said. Jim Albaugh, president and chief executive of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said Friday's launch "marks the beginning of an expansion plan that will strengthen the 787 program." "Locating the second line in North Charleston will allow Boeing to successfully compete in the aerospace market and grow for the long-term benefit of many stakeholders," ... Read Full Story

An outline contract agreed on Monday for the supply of 10 Airbus A320 aircraft to Yemen's national carrier is among the few highlights of this year's Dubai Airshow, noticeable for its lack of big deals. The organisers' hopes of beating the 155.5 billion dollars in orders chalked up at the last show in 2007 were fading fast as the show's second day produced only one big agreement, to follow the one major deal unveiled on the first day. The memorandum of understanding between Yemenia Airlines and Airbus -- worth 700 million dollars at catalogue prices -- was the sole sizeable civil aircraft order announced ... Read Full Story

Boeing said Friday its new 787 Dreamliner aircraft remains on track for its first test flight by the end of the year and that a problem noted in a news report had been "resolved." The aerospace giant commented after the Wall Street Journal reported it discovered a new issue with the composite material in the plane's wings as it reinforced an area of the fuselage of the aircraft. The Journal said metal bolts inside the wings of one of the six test airplanes were found to have slightly damaged the surrounding material. "The issue raised in the article has been resolved," a Boeing spokesman ... Read Full Story
