The San Jose Sharks have signed professional ice hockey left winger Brad Winchester to a one-year contract at the worth of $725,000. It has been announced by San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson on Tuesday.
“We feel that our training camp was as competitive as it ever has been and Brad came into it and earned a spot on our roster. He brings a rugged, veteran presence to our lineup and he does whatever it takes to be a good teammate.”
Winchester was selected in the second round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, 35th overall, by the Edmonton Oilers and played seven years in the NHL with Edmonton, Dallas, St. Louis and Anaheim, appearing in 323 career regular season games. He totaled 58 career points (31-27=58) and 464 penalty minutes and added three points (1-2=3) and 26 penalty minutes in 23 career postseason games.
Winchester made five appearances in preseason games and recorded one goal, one assist and a team-high 18 penalty minutes.
In February 2011, the Blues traded Winchester to the Anaheim Ducks for a 3rd round draft pick in 2012.
Winchester participated in the World Junior Hockey Championship with the United States in 2000, where he finished in fourth position.
