Grizzly Bears are the most widely distributed species and is consider as the subspecies of Brown bear. It is a vital fact that all
Grizzly bears can be named as brown bears but all brown bears cannot be termed as
Grizzly bears. Their numbers are rapidly dwindling and tapering because of over hunting. They are large specie with big round ears and black nose. One unique characteristic of these bears are that they have hump at their back which give them extra power to dig and run. They are heavy like more than 700 pounds. Their diet consists largely of vegetation and other animals, including tubers which they dig up with their sharp claws, berries, fruits and nuts. They also feed on insect grubs, fish, carrion and young deer. When not in hibernation they can eat up to almost 16kg per day. Females give birth to their babies between January and March in the female’s lair. They are no hairs on the cubs when they take birth and are helpless. They may remain with their mother for as long as four years. They can live up to 20 to 25 years in normal and 25 to 30 years approximately in wild.
