Carlos Mencia filming new special for Comedy Central, says he needed a break from comedy

Carlos MenciaIn an interview posted this morning, Carlos Mencia says he took a break from touring the last three years because “nothing was funny” to him.

“I was 22 years into it and needed to step away. Sometimes I would go to clubs but not go on stage. I just was not feeling it,” the controversial comedian told the Southwest Riverside News Network. “There was a point where my body was like, ‘we gotta do some jokes.’ It was never a conscious decision to slow down.”

These new quotes come days before Mencia films a new live comedy special on July 16 at the Pechanga Casino & Resort in Southern California, to be aired later this year on Comedy Central.

During his hiatus, Mencia famously guested on comedian Marc Maron’s podcast WTF, wherein the embattled comic finally answered pointed questions about joke stealing allegations that had haunted him for years.

Now that Mencia is out of semi-retirement, are you happy to see him back? Will you be tuning in to see his latest special when it airs on Comedy Central?
