Flemington
Race 1 1100M Talindert Stakes
ANEVAY NICHOLAS HALL 1st $2.20F
CASH FOR MATT DANNY NIKOLIC 2nd $61
COVERED IN CLASS LUKE NOLEN 3rd $11
Final lead up race for the Blue Diamond and Anevay was well found by punters after her narrow defeat the start prior at Caulfield and she didn’t let the punters down. It was a text book ride by Nick Hall and the daughter of Exceed And Excel drew away to win by almost 2 lengths. Like Sepoy she likes to race prominent and like most years her chances will be better known once the barrier draw happens. Hollywierd is better than her run suggested and she raced like she’d had enough this prep. Covered In Class fought on well without threatening to finish third and Cash For Matt caught the eye with a fast finishing second coming from the tail as did Rescue Mission. They look like they will be better suited in a race like the sires over 1400m.
Race 4 1400M The Mittys Vanity
SOUTHERN SPEED CLARE LINDOP 1st $3.60
DO RA MI LUKE NOLEN 2nd $2.40F
COUNT YOUR FINGERS CRAIG NEWITT 3rd $41
This was a good win by the Adelaide visitor Southern Speed. Lindop gave her a gun run throughout and she looked to relax just worse than midfield. Rounding the turn Lindop got her into clear running and just made sure she had an uninterrupted run to the post. She got on level terms with the Moody runner at about the 200m before drawing away and registering a very good win. She looks as if she will only get better over more ground and was so strong on the line. Like the way she won and really like the look of her heading forward. Do Ra Mi did what she has done her first couple and just found one better on the day, she is a very honest front runner but was no match for the winner. They were a class above the rest of the field and I can’t see anything that finished behind Southern Speed troubling her as they progress through the distances here.
Race 5 1400M CS Hayes Stakes
BULLBARS MARK ZAHRA 1st $15
STARTSMEUP PAUL HAMMERSLEY 2nd $26
SPIRITED EAGLE CLARE LINDOP 3rd $9
This was a pretty open race when we did the form and the final result showed that. The Ellerton runner
Enjin Number Nine was hammered late in the betting and failed to finish in the placings. He was coming off a win at Sandown when he beat Star Witness and no doubt he was on the right part of a pretty ordinary surface that day. Thought he had every chance but wasn’t good enough. Bullbars came through the same Sandown race and wound up really well down the straight to claim victory. He doesn’t have an explosive sprint and he just really ground to the line and looks as if he will keep improving over more ground. Startsmeup from Brisbane is just a very consistent galloper. He doesn’t put in a bad effort and him running second shows just how classy the Sydney 3yo Somepin Anypin is. Spirited Eagle was in front of everything throughout the run besides the first two who came from behind him, his run was very good. Mr Chard will get better once he gets out to a mile. A horse I like Anacheeva put in an ordinary performance and recorded some pretty sub standard sectionals for a horse that won the Caulfield Guineas in the Spring. Will need to see an improved effort from him before he becomes an investment.
Race 6 1000M Coolmore Lightning Stakes
BLACK CAVIAR LUKE NOLEN 1st $1.28F
HAY LIST GLYN SCHOFIELD 2nd $5.50
WARM LOVE BEN MELHAM 3rd $81
This one was for all racing fans and a replay I don’t think I will ever get tired of watching. She is a super mare
and you really just need to keep watching the replay to believe what you are seeing. This was the Group 1 Lightning Stakes and she won like it was trackwork at Caulfield on a Thursday morning. She jumped and ran and just cruised along until about the 300m when Nolen slipped her a little more rein and she kicked into 3rd gear, she has 10 gears and won eased up over the last 100m by almost 4 lengths. Make no mistake about it she could have won by the “the length of the straight” and made them look even worse. Watching champion race horses live on course is a super experience and if you ever get the chance to see her you should make the most of it. Hay List who I thought was a live chance was just no match for her, he looked to travel well until Nolen got Black Caviar out of her power walk. Warm Love who looks to be a typical 1000m Flemington specialist did really well to race prominent and finish third ahead of the fast finishing grand campaigner Grand Duels.
Rosehill
Race 1 1200M THE AUSTRALIAN BREWERY HANDICAP
HELMET KERRIN MCEVOY 1st $2.70F
FLORENTINA COREY BROWN 2nd $3.10
HOUSTON BENEFACTOR JIM CASSIDY 3rd $7
2yo race to kick off a good day of racing at Rosehill. Florentina who had been burning up the track at the trials was well found by punters and had a good run in transit, but was unable to match it with the impressive winner from the Snowden camp Helmet. Snowden is on fire and if his 2yos can hold together and come back as good 3yos he will enjoy many strong years heading into the future. Helmet was just too classy for them and was given a lovely run from McEvoy outside the leader Chew The Fat. Once they rounded the turn McEvoy was patient until the 300m before letting him go and he exploded away to gap the rest. He then gave him a crack with the wip at the 100m and he ducked out severely but was good enough to switch
on again, straighten and draw away again.
Race 2 1100M NORTH RYDE RSL CLUB HANDICAP
HALEKULANI NASH RAWILLER 1st $3F
LA REMLAP COREY BROWN 2nd $5.50
BELTANE KERRIN MCEVOY 3rd $4.20
Here we saw Waterhouse/Rawiller in action with the impressive winner Halekulani. Nash gave him a gun run in fourth throughout and kept him out of trouble rounding the turn. He was then engaged in a dog fight with the Pride trained runner La Remlap and got the upper hand in the concluding stages to draw clear and win by just under a length. It was a good return by the son of Encosta De Lago and he looks to have plenty of scope. La Remlap was super first up and on pace and carried the same weight as the winner 57.5kg. She will only improve from that run and be hard to beat wherever she goes next time out in particular if she goes
back to race against her own sex. Beltane was a funny run, he seemed to be gone at one stage and got going again late to finish third.
Race 6 1400M APOLLO STAKES
MELITO BRENTON AVDULLA 1st $8.50
HOT DANISH TIM CLARK 2nd $3F
CENTENNIAL PARK COREY BROWN 3rd $7
This was a super win by Melito who has won quality races as a 2yo, 3yo & 4yo. Her record should read much better on paper but they tried to win the Oaks with her. It was a gun ride by Avdulla and a great training performance by Gerald Ryan to prepare her so well to win a quality race first up over 1400m. She looks as if she will take the next step this campaign and will be very hard to beat wherever they go. Hot
Danish raced in her usual role on the pace and did well to run second. She may be at the stage of her career now where she will keep finding one better and I would like some odds before she got any of my money. Centennial Park ran on well again to finish third from the back of the field, he was the only runner to break 23 seconds for the last 400m. Once Were Wild returned well from her time off with a good fourth. She had a pretty ordinary Spring and could be an Autumn mare. Hard to forget her win in the AJC Oaks last year, keep an eye on her over more ground. Love Conquers All is a total forget, he was caught wide throughout and did a super job to finish where he did. No doubt he is flying and when doing the form for his next start be very forgiving of whats printed in your form guide. Danleigh recorded some good sectionals and recorded the equal fastest last 600m with stable mate Metal Bender. Danleigh is a grand performer and he looks to be in great shape. The problem with him is he needs a slow track or worse to show his best, which probably makes his run here on a good track even better. Metal Bender was good after a bleeding attack. As mentioned earlier his sectionals were very good and he is a winning chance next start. Run For Naara, Lorne Dancer and Vision And Power were no match. The first two were just outclassed and Vision And Power needs a heavy track.
