"wrong picture and a little too cheap" 2009-07-10
By O. Weston
The guitar I received has the pick guard covered with a bunch of cheap looking "Jasmine" text.

It comes with one strap button. What good is that? I drilled a hole in the neck heal to add a button and it is like a chocolate easter bunny - just a shell about 1/8 inch thick and hollow inside!

Anyone know a kid who wants to learn guitar around Escondido, Ca?

 "Best Sound at Price" 2009-07-07
By Arlan Purdy (United States)
My sister got another entry level guitar (I think it was the Rogue RA 100D) at around the same time and the whole family agrees the Takamine Jasmine sounds better. As a complete musical novice I am not very discerning, but I would say it's not hard to hold the strings for notes (action is not too high). Strings came with a few spots of corrosion so I'm sure they ought to be replaced (not sure I would notice the difference, though). After months of owning I noticed the white bit up top by the tuners (the nut) is set deeper on one end than the other. So the quality is not perfect but for the price it is a superb way to start learning guitar.

 "Excellent Value!" 2009-07-01
By Daniel B. Glover (Texas)
I recently purchased this guitar and I could not be happier. I am a novice guitarist and have been doing this as a hobby for about 1 year. This guitar is of excellent quality except for the strings that shipped from the factory. The coil wrapped strings (most notably the G) had corrosion in them but this was not a problem for me because I purchased new strings (Elixir Nanoweb Light Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings) to go immediately on the guitar once I had it. The tone is excellent from this guitar and the finish and look is top quality. You will not be disappointed with this guitar.

"I dont know guitars but not worth the hype" 2009-06-27
By S. Owens (The Great NorthEast)
Received in normal fashion, packaging seemed OK.
Quality, not so good, has a feel and look that its made out of Balsam wood.
Purchased a Korg tuner with it, but I am unable to get this in a tune that sounds halfway decent.
Went all over the web to tune this, there is plenty on Youtube. Have it tuned, doesnt make near the sound when playing chords that you hear online. I have friends who are professinal musicians and I am embarrassed to bring this over to have them tune it.
The first and the 6th strings have a horrible rattle/vibration to them. I am definately sending this back, maybe I received one with a problem hence the rattle but to replace it with something that seems has such low quality material makes no sense.
Time to spend more to get more I guess.

"Great craftsmenship for the price, but uncertain of materials" 2009-06-27
By Timothy M. Trogdon (Cleveland, Oh USA)
Three factors prompted me to order this guitar on-line. 1) Product description, 2. Written reviews, and 3. price offered by sellers. The product is described as follows: Product Features:
Features a Spruce Top
Mahogany Back & Sides
Satin Finish
Chrome covered Tuning Machines
Rosewood Fretboard
When I went to the Jasmine Takamine manufacturer's web site the S-35 accoustic guitar was described as having a Nato Back and Sides. So I am not sure if mine is made from Mahogany (Amazon's description) or Nato (manufacturer's description and other web sites). The guitar arrived undamaged with excellent service. The seller I placed my order with shipped it on Monday the day after I ordered it (Sunday). It arrived the same week on Thursday.
The set-up and "action" were pretty good right out of the box. It tuned nicely. I used lemon oil applied with cotton q-tips on the fret board and bridge. On the guitar's neck and body, because it is a natural finish, instead of using a guitar polish from the instrument store I used Kleen Guard (spray)Furniture Polish with fresh lemon (went nicely with the lemon oil used on bridge and frett board). The bridge was very secure and the nut was also secured. Sometimes even the most expensive guitars need the nut filed for each string specifically to assure stings are the preferred distance over the fret bars/board, mine was playable as I received. I read a comment that the guitar didn't have a button on the heel for a strap. That is actually good - so leave off the second button as a strap attached to the base and heel of the guitar is unbalanced. It is better to have the guitar stap attach to the neck below the strings just above the nut. It is more stable. You can pick up a device (inexpensive) that fixes just above the nut which attaches to a piece that is tied to your guitar stap with a slip naught. this device allows for quick removal and attachment of the strap. Hint: Adjust strap length for support at the bottom of guitar body and not at the neck/nut position. Be sure to revove strap (place in pouch) before placing guitar in case or gig bag. that will prevent scratches to the back of the guitar and protect its finish for years.
My guitar has a pleasanr sound and flawless craftsmenship around the seems of the body, heel and fret board. I gave the guitar five stars for the overall quality at an excellent price even though there is a conflict as to whether the guitar's body was constructed of Nato wood or Mahogany wood.
