Gwen Stefani Sues Company Over Band Hero Video Game

There's a big line between the act Gwen Stefani and her No Doubt bandmates put on when they go on tour, and "a virtual karaoke circus act." The singer is filing a lawsuit against a video game company who she claims turned her band into just that. She and the No Doubt crew let the Band Hero game use their likenesses in avatars for the game, but they say creators took it too far.

Here is a caption. Gwen said she agreed to let the company Activision use her image for 3 No Doubt songs in the video game, and that's it. But, the game lets players use her and the other bandmembers to "play" and "sing" 60 other songs by a whole bunch of different artists.

The singer seems especially heated over the fact that her avatar can have a male voice and croon to the Rolling Stones' song "Honky Tonk Woman." The suit reads (via E! News) this "results in an unauthorized performance by the Gwen Stefani avatar in a male voice boasting about having sex with prostitutes."

Of course, the company says what they're doing is totally legal. "Activision believes it is within its legal rights with respect to the use and portrayal of the band members in the game and that this lawsuit is without merit," they said in a statement.

It's been said that the band is seeking unspecified damages, an injunction preventing Activision from selling any more of the game, and a recall of all of the Band Hero games they've already sold. Yikes.
