A community portal about Hubble Space Telescope with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: The Hubble Space Telescope is a telescope in orbit around the Earth, named after astronomer Edwin Hubble for his discovery of galaxies outside the Milky Way and his creation of Hubble's Law, which calculates the rate at which the universe is expanding. Its position outside the Earth's atmosphere allows it to take sharp optical images of very faint objects, and since its launch in 1990, it has become one of the most important instruments in the history of astronomy. It has been responsible for many ground-breaking observations and has helped astronomers achieve a better understanding of many fundamental problems in astrophysics. Hubble's Ultra Deep Field is the deepest astronomical optical image ever taken.
Around Noon today commands to recover Hubble's science instruments from their safe modes will begin and internal exposures and calibrations of the telescope's science instruments will occur before midnight Thursday.
CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (Reuters) - The Hubble Space Telescope was in the final stages of recovery on Thursday after NASA successfully bypassed a faulty computer and resurrected an 18-year-old spare from orbital hibernation.

Engineers man their stations at the Space Telescope Operations Control Center as commands are sent to the Hubble Space Telescope's science instrument command and data-handling system.
The revival of the Hubble Space Telescope is going "exactly as we hoped," a NASA spokesman said...
The Hubble Space Telescope should soon be back in business, thanks to NASA's ability to reload the spacecraft's Intel 486-powered computer and switch to a backup data-control system.
Last night, scientists at the Goddard Space Flight Center switched the Hubble's control and data-handling...
So far, everything is going well and as planned for the Hubble Space Telescope's long-distance 'brain surgery.' During the night of Oct. 15, Space Telescope Operations Control Center engineers at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center successfully turned on and checked out Side B of Hubble’s...
For you people still using 486 personal computers, be assured that NASA still uses them, too. They just got the Hubble Space Telescope up and running again by switching to...
NASA engineers will bring the Hubble Space Telescope online tomorrow after two weeks of trouble for the landmark scientific instrument.
A backup system, lying dormant since launch, has successfully been switched on. Using the backup scientific data formatter allowed the team to put the...
"The Hubble Space Telescope team completed switching the required hardware modules to their B-sides about 9:30 a.m. this morning and received telemetry that verified they had good data.
Hubble Space Telescope scientists will be doing an earth-to-telescope repair procedure this week, hoping to flip from a dead primary data formatter to a working-but-never used backup one. It looks...
NASA will try to bring the Hubble Space Telescope's science instruments out of survival mode today, after powering up a critical backup control unit that had not been activated since the observatory's launch in ...
