BEIJING, Aug 18: Reigning Olympic and world champion Yelena Isinbayeva of Russia bettered her own world record to win the women's pole vault gold medal at the Beijing Games on Monday.  

She's an Olympic silver medalist with a Hollywood story, yet in many ways Jennifer Stuczynski feels like an outcast in her adopted hometown of Rochester.  

There were no surprises though in the women's pole vault - where Yelena Isinbayeva sailed to gold and a new world record - or the men's steeplechase, where a Kenyan took gold for the seventh time in a row.
