John Hughes, Jr. (February 18, 1950 - August 6, 2009) was a director known best for iconic 1980s movies such as "Sixteen Candles," and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." John Hughes died of a heart attack.

John Hughes, writer and director of such Hollywood classics as The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles has died in New York City of a heart attack according to TMZ.com.

Hughes, 59, was reportedly taking a morning walk while visiting family. No more details are yet known.

Hughes had not directed a movie since the 1991 film Curly Sue, though he continued to write, credited as Edmond Dantes on Drillbit Taylor and Maid in Manhattan. His biggest hit came when he wrote the 1990 film Home Alone.
