Gomes dos Santos Earns $165,000 from NYC Marathon Victory

New York, November 2, 2008—The 39th annual ING New York City Marathon hosted a deep field, with one of the largest American showings in recent years. But the win came from a Brazilian—one of the 15 men in this race who have run under 2:10. Looking behind to check his lead, Marilson Gomes dos Santos of Sao Paulo, Brazil, crossed the finish line of the ING New York City Marathon alone to collect $130,000 for the open win and a $35,000 time bonus for finishing under 2:09:00.
