Marion Davies Honored With All Day TCM Marathon on August 3

The actress Marion Davies is getting an all-day marathon on TCM.
If you dig old-school movies, both silent and talkies, today's a good day to tune into TCM.

The channel is running a 24-hour marathon of Marion Davies pictures, running up to their hour-long original documentary The True Story of Marion Davies.

While today's Marion Davies schedule consists of predominately her later movies, the talkies from the 30's, TCM does wisely schedule two of her most beloved silent films in the prime time slot, with "Show People" on at 8 and "The Patsy" following at 9:30, both directed by King Vidor.

"Show People," in particular, is great fun in addition to being an educational look at what a young woman coming to Hollywood in the 1920's--and there were A LOT of them--would have to face. Of course, your typical Jane Doe didn't walk through the gates with the talent Marion Davies had in her pinky finger. Surely not too many had Charlie Chaplin asking for their autograph as Davies' Peggy Pepper does in "Show People."
