Photo AgencyMary-Louise Parker plays a mom on Showtime's
Weeds and in real life, and she couldn't be happier about her roles. On the small screen she's got 2 trouble-making teens and a newborn, but at home she's mama to 5-year-old William Atticus and her adopted daughter Caroline Aberash, 3. She gushed in an interview yesterday with
People magazine at the 5th Annual Worldwide Orphans benefit gala about her home life: "Becoming a mom is the best thing that's happened to me."

Mary-Louise said adopting Caroline from Ethiopia in August 2007 was the best decision she's ever made. She said her tot is still learning English, as Amharic was her first language, but she's fitting in just fine -- and even gets along with her older brother. The proud mama said: "They both want to put on shows all the time with top hats. It's very vaudeville. They are really sweet together and sometimes they hurt each other, but they are just like me and my brother."
She also said her daughter is a tough cookie. "She's really strong and she's like a little warrior. She's really amazing," the actress bragged, like any good mom.
These days, she seems to share parenting duties with her musician boyfriend
Charlie Mars. She split from
Billy Crudup in 2004, just 2 months before William was born. It's a given that you learn a lot of life lessons from motherhood, and this 45-year-old star is no different. "They really put you in touch on how little you know and how little you are capable of and much you are capable of," she said. "They are very humbling, children. I am more patient now. I've become much more patient."
