It was not a good day for Hungarian weightlifter Janos Baranyai. In his first Olympics ever, he dislocated his elbow, then fell to the ground writhing and crying out in pain, his arm obviously bent out of position. It was his third lift, and Baranyai was trying to snatch 148kg in the men's 77kg division when his elbow popped from its socket. The coaching staff, and a number of Chinese officials hurried to his side, shielding him from the spectators and the media.
Eventually, he was taken away on a stretcher and taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital. Luckily, none of the Olympian's bones had broken during the injury, but Baranyai is for sure out of the games, and probably done for the rest of the year.A video of the injury has been released on YouTube, but we warn you, it is hard to watch. The arm seems to buckle under the enormous weight, eventually bending awkwardly, causing Baranyai to fall to the floor, the weights hitting him as he goes down.
Still, if Baranyai can muster up the courage to make it back form this injury, he still has at least two more Olympics left in him. He is only 24-years-old, and could possibly compete in the 2012 London Olympics.
