Cincinnati Bearcats versus Rutgers Scarlet Knights College Football Sports Betting Preview
It will be a Big East Conference battle on the college football field on Labor Day Monday as the Cincinnati Bearcats will travel to New Jersey to face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in an all important conference college football game. Kickoff time is set for 4PM Eastern Time with national television coverage provided by ESPN. The LVSC odds makers have set the opening line in this contest and the home team Rutgers Scarlet Knights opened as 6 ½ point favorites. The early money from the college football betting public has come in on the underdog as Rutgers is currently a 5 point favorite. Total bettors can make a college football sports bet on the over under and that line is currently available at 48. College football money line bettors can make a play on the money line as the favored Rutgers Scarlet Knights will return –200 with the Cincinnati Bearcats bringing back +175 to win straight up without the point spread factoring in the outcome of the bet.
Cincinnati has beaten Rutgers three straight times and are coming off an 11 win season last season. Quarterback Tony Pike returns for his senior season after hitting on over 61% of his passes for 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Behind Pike will be Jacob Ramsey and John Goebel who led the Bearcats in rushing last season combining for over 1300 yards. Pike will have his top receiver from a year ago in Mardy Gilyard who caught 81 passes for 1276 yards and 11 touchdowns. The issue with the Bearcats will be their defense as the club returns just 1 starter from a year ago. The good news for the Bearcats is the players starting on the front line defensively saw action last year. The Bearcats have changed defensive coordinators and will go from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 defense in 2009. On the Rutgers side the team must replace starting quarterback Mike Teel who was competing for a roster spot in the NFL this summer. Rutgers will start a freshman at quarterback, as Tom Savage will be under center. Rutgers return all three of their running backs that combined for over 1500 yards in 2008. Savage will be without Mike Teel’s top pass catching wide receiver as Kenny Britt has left the program. The wideout made 87 receptions for 1371 yards and 7 touchdowns with a 15.7 yards per reception average a year ago. Defensively the Scarlet Knights return 6 on defense and it was the secondary that took a hit. There is not much experience in the Rutgers back 4.
