Ryan Brathwaite, Barbados Man, Wins 110-Meter Hurdles

Ryan Brathwaite, a 21-year-old Olympic hurdler from Barbados, won the 110-meter hurdles at the World Championships today. It was the first medal ever to be won for Barbados at the World Championships.

Braithwaite hit the first hurdle, but managed to finish the race in 13.14 seconds in a photo finish. Terrence Trammell, an American, placed second with 13.15 seconds.

Barthwaite made it as far as the semi-finals in the Olympics last year. The AP reported that he said, "I am very happy. My dream really has come true. Barbados is only a small country but I showed the world who I am."
