Kim Catrall, Cynthia Nixon, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kristin Davis film 'Sex and the City 2' (Bauer Griffin)more pics » Cynthia Nixon (ABC) Cynthia Nixon used to rock a gorgeous mane of bright red hair on Sex and the City, but the actress recently shaved off those signature locks for her latest acting role.
Nixon, who is now completely bald, stopped by Live! with Kelly on Tuesday to chat about playing a professor with terminal cancer in the Broadway production of Wit. The actress herself battled breast cancer in 2008 and was eager to take on the personal role, even if it meant shaving her head. Nixon told Kelly Ripa that she was initially shocked by the change, but that she's gotten used to her new grooming routine.
"I thought it was kind of gonna be no muss-no fuss, but I have to shave it every day! It's got kind of a five o'clock shadow, and you don't want to go on with that," she laughed. "I was always kind of curious to see what it would be like. I like it...I don't think I'm gonna keep it forever."
Wit officially opens January 26 at the Manhatthan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in New York.
• Mike and Molly star Melissa McCarthy got quite the suprise when she woke up for work this morning: an Oscar nomination! The actress, who has worked primarily in television for many years, scored a nom for her brashly funny, no holds barred performance in Bridesmaids. "I didn’t get up or anything," a still-shocked McCarthy told Entertainment Weekly. “I just did not expect that. AT ALL! Hopefully I’m not nuts.”
As for her plans to celebrate, the actress has a few things to do before she can relax and have a well-deserved celebratory drink. “I have to go to work in an hour. I have to shoot today! But that’s not a bad thing — I love my job. Then I have a show tomorrow. At some point today, I’m having champagne dammit!”
• In other Oscar nominations news, Michelle Williams was nominated for her role as screen siren Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn. Williams is a big time movie star now with a Golden Globe and multiple Academy Award nominations, but in our hearts she'll always be little Jen Lindley from Dawson's Creek. In the spirit of never forgetting where you came from, here's some vintage Michelle Williams to brighten your day.

"The Pudding is proud to honor such accomplished actors whose work has made an indelible mark on the world of entertainment, in both drama and comedy," the Harvard Hasty Pudding Club stated on its website. As part of the award ceremony, Danes will lead a parade through the streets of Cambridge on Thursday, Feb. 4, and Segel will be roasted and given his pudding pot on Friday, Feb. 3. Congrats!
