Israeli President Shimon Peres has called on his Palestinian Authority counterpart Mahmoud Abbas to stand for re-election.
Earlier this week Mr Abbas announced he would not be standing in the upcoming Palestinian elections because of the lack of progress in the peace negotiations.
Mr Peres urged Mr Abbas to change his mind and not give up. He assured Mr Abbas that Israel genuinely wanted peace.
