With the end of the Twilight Saga rapidly approaching (Breaking Dawn Part 2 hits theater on Nov. 16), many people involved in the film are looking for a way to keep the lucrative franchise alive. According to a recent report from Moviehole.net, Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment are mulling the idea of creating a Twilight TV show.
The series would reportedly be set within the same world as the hit book and film franchise, but would not focus on Edward, Bella, and Jacob. According to rumors floating around the web, the potential series would focus either on the rest of Jacob's wolf pack or on another coven of vampires.
Setting aside the fact that it's doubtful whether fans really care about anyone other than the main trio, does TV really need another vampire or werewolf show? Between The Vampire Diaries, True Blood, and Teen Wolf, the sexy supernatural genre currently seems pretty well-represented on the small screen. According to an industry expert we talked to, turning Twilight into a TV series might not be the slam dunk that producers are hoping for.
"I don’t believe a Twilight TV show would have the same success for a number of reasons, the biggest being that the hype has passed," says Brian Hughes, Senior VP and head of audience analysis at Magna Global, a large film that analyzes and reports on media. "In general, I would say that the time of the vampire is over, and we are now in the age of the zombie (see Walking Dead)."
We can't help but agree with Hughes, but maybe we're just not seeing the potential awesomeness of a series about those shirtless La Push wolves. So tell us, would you watch a Twilight TV show? Or are you so over the Forks gang? Cast your vote in the poll below, then sound off with your thoughts in the comments!
