The United Nations Security Council will gain five new members on 1 January, 2010. Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Gabon, Lebanon and Nigeria will replace Burkina Faso, Costa Rica, Croatia, Libya and Vietnam.
The new members were announced after a vote in the UN's General Assembly in New York on Thursday.
The Security Council has 15 members, five of which are permanent. The composition of the ten non-permanent members changes every year.
