According to Wikipedia.org: The Volkswagen Type 1, more commonly known as the Beetle, Fusca, Coccinelle or Cox, Vocho, Bug, Volky or Käfer, Escarabajo is an economy car produced by the German automaker Volkswagen from 1938 until 2003. Although the names "Beetle" and "Bug" were quickly adopted by the public, it was not until August of 1967 that VW themselves began using the name Beetle in marketing materials. It had previously been known only as either the "Type I" or as the 1200, 1300 or 1500, which had been the names under which the vehicle was marketed in Europe prior to 1967; the numbers denoted the vehicle's engine size in cubic centimetres. In 1998, many years after the original model had been dropped from the lineup in most of the world VW introduced a New Beetle, bearing a strong resemblance to the original.

VW Beetle on Indian roads by next month

The wait for the Beetle is over and is now official. Volkswagen will launch the famous Beetle also called as People’s Car in India by early next month. The Beetle will be imported from Volkswagen’s Mexico plant. However the price of the car is not disclosed.

The famous Beetle’s production was topped in the year 1969, but with people demanding for the car, production was restarted in the year 1996 with a new sylish design. Beetle has been the most successful models the company has ever build. The car created a history by selling in more number in its era, Mexico being one of the biggest market for it.
The brain child behind the car was none other than Dictator of Germany Adolf Hitler and designed by Mr Ferdinand Porsche. The purpose of the car was to build a car which every people can own one. Hence the company Volkswagen which means ‘Peoples Car’ was formed and Beetle became a Jewel in VW’s crown.

The new cute baby like design specially with bright colours of Red, Yellow and Black has won millions of hearts over the world and I doubt anyone would hesitate of own one if he/she is affordable.
