What are the symptoms of a yeast infection in dogs?

I have a female pug that's almost a year old she has two irritated spots on the back of her head that are red and they itch, sometimes bleed.
My dog also is chewing her paws. She's chewing them like shes trying to soothe an itch. does she have a yeast infection? I know its a common infection with pugs but I just want to make sure it isnt something more serious.

i don't think it's a yeast infection. but have you asked a vet?

It does sound like she has a problem with yeast. Switching her to a grainless food like Taste of the Wild, Canine Wetlands formula or one of the others will usually help.

Also try supplementing her diet with Omega 3 fish oil capsules. Poke them with a pin and just let her lick the contents.

It's true that pugs can have very sensitive skin and are susceptible to skin bacteria. Unfortunately only a vet can diagnosis if it is a bacterial infection. You might also talk to your vet about allergies. Licking the paws, irritated skin, and ear infections are common signs and symptoms of a dog with allergies. Good luck

Sounds more like mange – you need to get your pug to the vet to be checked out.

There are meds for yeast or mange, but first you need to identify what the problems is, could even be allergies – why would you let your dog suffer like that?
Get her to the vet.

Itching is a sign of a yeast infection, but you have also described the symptoms for mange, so your best bet is to take her to the vet and let them decide.

Yeast infections of the skin are very common with dogs. my little Westie-Poodle gets them. Itches a lot, chews her paws and sometimes even gets an ear infection. I use natural remedies that seem to help her a lot. Try mixing pure, pressed apple cider vinegar and water 1 to 1 mixture in a spray bottle and misting it on her where she itches and then rubbing it into the skin. a great cure and soother for yeast infections (if you don't mind your baby smelling like a pickle for a little while!). in addition get some plain lowfat yogurt and give your dog about a tablespoon a day. my dogs love the yogurt and lap it right off the plate, but if you can't get her to eat it, just mix it in with some food. Doing these things should help you get it under control in no time.

Usually yeast infections are a sign that there was some type of allergy and allergies in dogs are usually due to their food. Try switching her to a high quality low grain food where the sole source of protein is something different then what she's eating now. Wean her onto the new food slowly. If the food she has is chicken, stay away from chicken, even in treats. Give it some time and if that was the allergy source you should be able to see some improvement.

If it is a yeast infection your dog will rise very quickly if put on the lower shelf of a preheated oven.

She may have a yeast infection. They usually have a odd body odor with that. Only a vet could tell you what the skin problem is.

Your dog has a food allergy for sure. my dog was that way too. he needed a grain free diet. I starting making my dogs food, but you can also get a good food like Solid Gold Barking at the Moon. You can see some results in 2 weeks, but a really dramatic improvement in 6-8 weeks. Add a little Salmon oil. It will help the coat. your dog may need special shampoo. We had to use Malaseb.
