Who You Know Could Make Sparkly Gloves Look Good? The Life And Fashionable Times Of The Icon Michael

From the scrunched-up ankle socks to his glittering gloves, Michael Jackson has influenced the world of fashion as no one else could. This season alone, we saw the rebirth of the Jackson band jacket (á la Balmain), a flashy reminder to the fabulous life of the iconic pop singer.

Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana to Joe and Katherine Jackson, the seventh of nine children. These siblings would later grow up to be the most popular family next to royalty, with such musical talent as the Jackson 5 (a.k.a. The Jacksons), Janet and Michael, himself.

Michael was destined to be the breakout brother of the popular boy band, Jackson 5. He was known as the little brown cutie with the bigger-than-his-body afro. We never quite learned his secret for forming its perfect shape, but didn't you love seeing it bounce to and 'fro?
We first saw Michael emerge as his own talent in 1979's
The Wiz, an all-black retelling of the Wizard of Oz. He played the scarecrow, a boogie-down brown character tortured by singing crows. I still crack up every time I see those straw-strewn dreadlocks and quivering legs.

Lets move on to Michael of the eighties. Off The Wall was such a huge success, selling over 20 million copies worldwide and earning him the highest royalty rate of the music industry at 37-percent. We also saw Michael in that sparkly getup featured in the "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" video. We can also thank Michael for the emergence of the Jheri Curl, a wet drippy mess that turned all the ladies to goo of hunk-of-burning love.

Although Jackson's Thriller album official released date was November 30,
1982, it
has since gone forward to be the best-selling record of all time. The
video from the title single from the album went on to become a pop culture mainstay. Billie Jean ushered in the vinyl cigarette leg pants for men, the bowtie and casual tuxedo jacket. Between the boyfriend jacket
and the cigarette pants, this look flew off store shelves this year.
This is also where we were first saw
to the glittering white glove, which is now the synonymous symbol of Michael's musical career.

If you can look past the fact that Michael's face mystically magically became lighter ( much controversy surrounding that) and his nose became much more narrow, he style evolved into the Bad image during the early 90s. We first became acquainted with Michael, the King of Pop, and his adorned jacket of gold accents and shoulder fringe,
leather pants, and funky jeans. Balmain made quite a show of a rendition of the jacket shown below.

In his more recent years, Michael has toned down his flashy style for a more mature and sensual look. We've seen him grace covers wearing subdued but expensive sports coats and suits with large lapels. His hair also changed to a choppy, floppy mane of dark subtle waves.

HairsMyStory.com would love to thank Michael Jackson for 41 years of music magic, for changing the color of pop music and infusing the world with infinite style. There will never be another Michael Jackson and I'm so grateful to have lived in his grace. Goodbye, Michael Jackson.
