Saxon Artisans Prepare Christmas Delights
A finished painted, wooden Pope figurine stands among partially-painted Pope figurine heads on the worktable of artisan Annette Reichl at the Richard Glaesser GmbH wooden toy manufactory on November 30, 2009 in Seiffen, Germany. Seiffen, located in eastern Germany close to the Czech border in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge), has an artisinal wooden toy manufacturing tradition dating back to the 18th century. Today local toy producers, many of them family-run, export their hand-made ornaments, nutcrackers, Christmas pyramids, figurines and other toys worldwide.
