France has pledged 12 million euros "for a start" in aid for refugees fleeing clashes between government forces and the Taliban in Pakistan, the country's president, Asif Ali Zardari, said in Paris. Zardari told journalists following talks with Nicolas Sarkozy that his army was comatting a radical "mindset" and that there was no end date in sight for the counteroffensive in the troubled Swat valley.
